GREGORY PROVES THE POWER OF PROSPECTING

Linda Gregory, sales associate out of the Perimeter office, recently proved that you should never stop prospecting, no matter the situation.

Several weeks ago, Gregory was in the hospital to have a brain tumor removed. Before her surgery, she was talking with her surgical nurse, who mentioned that she wanted to buy property in the North Georgia Mountains. Gregory’s husband, Doug Singleton, had recently joined BHGRE Metro Brokers, working primarily out of the Ellijay office. She had been trying to help him get new clients since joining, and this was the perfect opportunity.

After surgery, the nurse started giving Gregory her post-op instructions. But Gregory had other things on her mind. “I reached over and touched her arm very gently and said before you give me my post op instructions I want you to meet my husband,” Gregory recalls. “He is a Realtor at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers and works in the North Georgia Mountains. He will be glad to help you find a home.”

Gregory’s husband, Doug Singleton, started laughing and asked the nurse if she had ever heard of Leo Getz. “Leo Getz is a character out of Lethal Weapon 2 - a Realtor,” Gregory explains. “Leo had been shot and as he was being put into an ambulance, he turned to the ambulance driver and asked ‘do you own your own home?’ My husband called me Linda Getz!” But it all worked out for the best in the end. “My nurse has a Realtor, my husband has his first client, and I got my post-op instructions.”

Gregory has taken advantage of many other prospecting situations. About 9 months ago, she was at an athletic club owned by her friends. She noticed a man standing in the corner by himself, so she approached him. Turned out he had just moved from Pennsylvania and was looking to buy a home. She gave him her contact information and they closed on a home a few months ago. She has also talked to several people in the elevator at the BHGRE Metro Brokers corporate office, one about joining the company as an agent and the other about buying or selling.

Her story proves that you should never stop prospecting because you never know where your next client will come from. Her best advice? “Don’t be a secret agent. You will be surprised where you find clients.”
